So, what have I been reading in the past wee while? Well, in the fiction stakes, let’s consider a few:

(Note: there may be some minor spoilers herein. Nothing that should actually ruin your reading, or upon which key plot elements and gotchas hinge, but be warned…)

I started watching Hex; I can certainly see why trying to sell it as “like Buffy” would have gone down like a lead balloon, because, unlike Buffy, it’s an actual horror series.

…Tiny Toons? Well, now I know:

People were fixating on certain characters in ways they perhaps shouldn’t be fixated on. Certain individuals were hammering the voice actors, writers and animators with unwanted attention and (even less wanted) information on the prurient nature of their fixations. In other words, enough people were mailing WB’s studios wanting to see Babs Bunny naked that it started to become something of a problem…Tom Ruegger (one of the writers for and co-creators of the Tiny Toons show) was interviewed on TV, and related the stalking incidents as one of the reasons for losing interest and moving on to Animaniacs.

I liked that show. Thanks a lot, arseholes.

…so perhaps I don’t understand the finer points of running for political office in New Zealand; I cannot help but feel that a guy who was promoted as a potential minister of finance at the last election on the basis of his expertise in high-finance ought, perhaps, to leave that in the background now that he’s trying to be PM.

Because, honestly, I cannot understand how now is the time to be bragging about a background in the part of the financial industry most associated with the current economic woes.

Unless, I suppose, you’re admiring the wisdom of making a quick $60 million and then bailing for a nice secure public service job before the shit hits the fan.

Perhaps this will make you realise it isn’t such a mess.
