Ain’t Bruce amazing? Just the ease with which he keeps a crowd ramped up is something to behold. I hope your good work is karmically rewarded - you definitely did the admirable thing. Karmic reward would be them visiting Wellington in about 3 years. The other not cool thing was Mount Smart’s merchandising operation was rubbish. I’d have quite liked one of the stylee ones with Eddie carrying a sheep down a road to a signposted “Pine tree farm.” Strangely enough half a dozen or so people in two booths fail to serve 18,000 people very well. I managed the kiwi shirt, thankfully. Though frankly I probably skipped 30 min of line time due to Hunter being a hit. We were only about 5 min away from showtime and probably looking at another 25 min in line. So Sam offered to stay in line while Hunter and I watched the show (she’s not really a Maiden fan, nor metal fan for that matter). I took Hunter up to the front by the side so he could pick what he wanted, and the guy at the front of the line was impressed at the coolness of an 11 year old “girl”. When I corrected to “boy” he was even more impressed. Not too many long haired 11 year old kids at the gig. Frankly, I still believe that the smart move by the promoters would have been skipping the CHC show and booking 1 night at Vector with an option for a 2nd. Probably could have come close to selling out the 2nd night, and would have made a lot more. Anyway, Maiden didn’t disappoint; they never have. Was kinda odd to watch the same tour from the stands though, having been on the barrier at Wacken. Damn, Ed, if only I’d realised Hunter was a ticket to the front of the queue I could have given you money and orders The stands got some good banter at the end of the night—I wouldn’t have wanted to have had a kid down in the front, though. Also, I giggled at them ending with Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. |
