Works by Grant Buist
Grant Buist lived in Maryland, USA, during the Carter
administration
and in central Moscow just before the collapse of Communism. He now
lives in Wellington, New Zealand, and draws cartoons, including
‘Jitterati’ for Capital Times and ‘Brunswick’ for student newspapers
around the country. He also directs music videos and makes short
animated films. He once single-handedly painted a 23-metre long mural
and been paid to sing on stage. He would one day like a normal life.
These
prints
are an attempt to recreate the flat, simplified look of
screenprints and Japanese woodblocks. They are created from photographs
of Rhiannon which are cropped and worked on in Flash. Every outline and
feature is reduced to just three colours and shades (black, white, and
red).
